Meet the Ancestors
A flying visit to my Mum who still lives in the house I grew up in. Jamie and I came down to London to look at - and buy - a better wheelchair for him. Jamie found it advertised online, the previous owner had outgrown it. It gave us the chance for an overnight call to see Grandma. We've had fun ... and so has my Mum. She has had a downstairs loo installed since we last came here which makes visiting possible again. (At 88 she's still able to use the stairs but decided that once or twice a day was enough!)
Back in a room that was once my bedroom, shared then with two brothers, tonight I only have old photographs for company. My Dad with my Grandad and my Nanna my Dad's sister. I guess the pictures date from around 1940, Hilda was ten years older than my dad. I inherited the family 'hooter' from Nanna who lived to be 94. I spent a lot of time with her after she moved to live near us when Grandad died but it was his love of flowers and trains that has coloured my life to this day.
