WHITE FACED HERON (Ardea novaehollandiae)

The interesting thing about the White faced heron is it has more then one Restaurant - especially after heavy rain that puts the worms up.  We've had some heavy rain here - and for those not in NZ - heavy flooding in the Auckland region. Pleased I'm in Christchurch -the rain has put the worms up and this heron has taken advantage by using the          " Lawn Restaurant"
Another interesting thing about the Heron it has a nictitating membrane and this covers the eye when it goes after its prey. Other birds also have this safety membrane. Anyway - Rain Rain go away - this bird is looking decidedly dishevelled.
