Behind bars

Last day in Hong Kong, and we ended the afternoon with a visit to the Zoological & Botanical Gardens.

I have mixed feelings about animals in captivity. While this picture reflects my unease with the whole concept, I should point out that the Siamangs in this enclosure seemed very relaxed and quite playful. And they're probably looked after by keepers who care deeply for their welfare, as well as having veterinary care and protection from predators that gives them a much better chance of longevity than would be the case in their natural habitat.
