The Day After

We woke up a little worse for wear (see yesterday), made it to breakfast, made it out of the hotel and onto the road. The plan was to let the GPS not take us to any freeways so we could enjoy the scenery a bit. Sure, it would take us three and a half hours but who cares? Exactly. And after an initial key-fail, we knew Phyllis had fed and watered the cats :)
So, I saw enough (wilted) corn, red barns, hills, flat land, trees and lakes to keep me happy through the winter (yeah right). We took a few detours and found this place: the Kheene Environmental Area in Bellevue - in desperate need of a week of rain.
Within minutes there were fishes, turtles sneaking off, a snake in the mud and to top it of a flock of Sandhill Cranes flew over in the distance. It's apparently the site of the first limestone kiln in Eaton County, from somewhere in the 1800s. We'll go back as there's a trail to walk.

Then we drove into Kalamazoo, had a bit of lunch in Shakespeare's and then ... we had to get groceries :/

I had to have a lie down when we came home, but after that we went to Eric's for a beer. I'm thinking tomorrow I will do as little as I can possibly get away with while having no alcohol whatsoever.
