Huge Painted Lady

Found this on the lavender today. It must have been eighteen inches across. I've never seen a butterfly so big.

It's back to school tomorrow for Emma, so finishing touches to her summer homework project, which in her case was to be about butterflies. So there's some research and writing she's done (in a butterfly-shaped booklet) and this papiér maché butterfly that we helped her start last week. At her age, they don't mind if parents lend a helping hand, so that's what we've done.

Strange how the last day of the holidays gave us one of the warmest days of the year. Typical!
