Lanhydrock and D
Blipper D and I finally met up at Lanhydrock. We didn't get out of the coffee shop for ages we had so much to talk about - both feeling a little fragile - I felt much better by the end of the day -thank you D!
lanhydrock was it's usual impressive self - so much to see and photograph - I never tire of the place! This visit I found out the house was given intact to the National Trust by the surviving brother of ten - the original heir was killed in the First World War and the family never really recovered from his loss. The house was to be a memorial to him and remains as it would have been in his time. His room was not unlocked until the surviving brother died. This explains why the house looks and feels as if one is stepping back in time - every single item in the house was left to the National Trust - nothing was taken by the surviving family and the line ended at his final younger brothers death.
After lunch in the servants Hall we strolled round the garden and admired the magnificent magnolias. A perfect day!
