Heart of England
This morning we went on a walk which was organised by The Heart of England Forest.
I've blipped about this organisation before. Its goal is to create a huge forest, eventually to be 30,000 acres. The forest will be a place for people from more urban areas to rediscover nature, for children to learn about the natural world, and for wildlife and wild flowers to flourish, and they have recently planted their 1,500,000 th tree.
The charity was founded by the late Felix Dennis, and this is his statue which is in the forest, not far from his home in the village of Dorsington in Warwickshire. The statue depicts him holding the 1,000,000 th sapling which was not long before his death in 2014. He wished to be remembered as "Poet, Publisher and Planter of trees" so he certainly fulfilled his dream with the trees.
