The Mearns
The rich soil of the Mearns ( with even its "speak" as Donald Dewar put it in his memorable address at the opening of the Parliament in 1999 having its "soul in the land" ) is one of the cultural givens of Scotland - something that defines a place, a people and a world view.
Driving back from Aberdeen through the district with so much evidence of Spring ploughing, I had to turn off the main road in order to stop and get a picture of it.
