Really?

This American Coot may have been building a nest, but really did he think this size stick would be good? He struggled with it and finally dropped it for another smaller one. We had a fair amount of sun today but it was quite cold and windy at Bethany Lake. Our lake is really not very big (I added a photo in extra); there are a lot of plants that peak through the surface (the damaged or dead leaves are in the photo by the Coot) and I assume the water isn't very deep BUT a man was found floating dead in here a couple day ago. EEK!!! The police say they don't suspect foul play AND the man had been dead for "awhile".  I wonder what happened?   It felt a little strange walking by the lake today and seeing the birds there like normal when I knew someone had died in that lake.

Our company from New Zealand are delightful; we do enjoy these thoughtful guests. I am delighted that my husband is doing all the meal planning and they will be heading toward California tomorrow and we will be going to the beach.
