This is not just any duckling....
... this is an Australian duckling!!!!
So today was my first proper day of work. I was consulting with clients and their sick animals all day. I was really worried this morning when I arrived. I had a new computer system to learn, new drug names and a nurse in every consult with me. It was a great day. I had some Australian Carpet Python handling tips with"Duchess", she was lovely and so gentle, even when she was smelling all around my face (quite scary), unbelievably soft and smooth to touch, despite her scales, and extremely heavy, but then she was several meters long. I handled a Bearded Dragon and then dealt with the usual cats and dogs of the clinic. Awesome day. Finished with this little guy being brought in as an orphan. He will be hand reared and released when he's ready. I can't wait for my first Possum!!!!
I almost forgot to tell you though... A client came in today with her kitten for a pre op check. She is to be spayed in 2 days (the kitten, not the owner). At the same time, rather sheepishly, she asked.... "would you also mind checking over my son's teddy bear? Each child from the class has to take the bear for one day and record his adventures with a photo.... If you wouldn't mind examining him, placing a bandage and also having your photo taken with him, that would be great" How can you say no. I now appear in a childs' homework with my stethoscope poised at the bears thoracic cavity laughing whilst trying to appear professional!!!!
