Salish Orca

I was happy to see for the first time this new ferry docked next to our ferry to get to the gulf Islands this morning,   Ours, The Queen of Nanaimo, was built in 1964 and along with the Queen of Burnaby is being replaced by 3 new ferries built in Gdansk, Poland,.    The Salish Orca, the Salish Eagle and the Salish Raven.  The Salish Orca was the first to arrive in January after it’s long journey  through the Panama Canal,  and is now going through some "Dock Trials" before it starts its runs north of here.   (It looks big, very tall, with open cardeck and a huge door!)  The Salish Eagle has just arrived.    3 Coast Salish native artists were chosen to create the designs which were put on as a big  decal … I couldn’t get farther away to see them all at once but here is a cool video HERE  on this page --(an Mp4 file that shows the decal being put on)  as well as the other designs and some more info…if you are interested...   The Salish people were the first mariners in this Salish Sea. Don’t you think these Orcas are quite graceful??  (the weekly blip challenge is graceful…:-))

Happy to be on the island—-the weather cooperated and all is well…. we’ll get recharged in a few days….
