Arsenic and Old Lace

Cary Grant was my mother's absolute dream man but looking at myself in the mirror she clearly never got to meet him!
So for all those born after about 1960 here's the Link. Look under plot. Except for the flowers & ripe fruit, all parts of the eldeberry are toxic containing a cyanide-inducing glycoside. As always there ae two sides to the story as Elderberry has long been used in medicine and in folklore amongst other things as protection against lightning strikes!

The elderberry bushes are about 10 yards from the house but I have spent an hour or two cutting down the man high brambles & nettles to get near. Tomorrow morning I will harvest them - probably just freeze them & decide later whether to make jam/juice or maybe even liqueur.
There are hundreds of easily accessible bushes on paths around here but somehow using the fruit you have seen grow daily is a bit special. Added benefit I have cleared the area for the deer that come here in spring.
