Fire on the mountain
An interesting conversation with a firefighter and an animal lover. I explained that the smoke was from fires on the common that were the traditional method of gorse control. This has to finish soon as the nesting season is about to begin.
The firefighter said this
is such a busy time for them that the burning season usually pays for their summer holiday.
The angry animal lover could not believe such a medieval management practice was still being used with the inevitable loss off wildlife. He then attacked the way our fire brigade was paying its staff and implied the system could even be corrupt ,
Then he stormed off saying he had to leave as his ROAST LAMB DINNER was ready. Oh the irony!!!
