Diderot in Spring
A close-up of a statue of the Enlightenment philosopher Denis Diderot on the Boulevard St. Germain, which has been a favorite of mine for years. It's opposite the venerable church of St. Germain des Prés; I was returning from a small exhibition at the nearby cabinet des dessins (drawings gallery) at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, on Ingres (1780-1867) and his students-- barely two dozen works, with those of Ingres of distinctly better quality than those of his students
