The Candy Bomber.
Hanging from the roof of the Deutsches Technikmuseum, a United States Air Force C-47 Skytrain serves as a visible reminder of the Berlin Airlift, where transport aircraft like this flew supplies into a beseiged Berlin between 1948 and 1940.
Aircraft like this were also known as Rosinenbombers as the pilots would drop improvised parachutes with packets of sweets, chocolate bars and fruit for the children waiting beyond the airfields of Tempelhof and RAF Gatow - a gesture that went a long way to normalising relations between the West Germans and the Americans.
