Getting lost

We are finding it easy to get lost in Seville Old Town. Today's visit was to the Alcazar near the cathedral where we had to queue for a wee while but it was in glorious Spring sunshine so it wasn't a hardship.

The history of the place goes back more than a thousand years according to a guide book with various rules demolishing and adding buts. Apparently General Franco used to stay here when in Sevilla. As well as the buildings and the craft so evident in the decoration, it has extensive gardens and so a good place to be when the weather forecast was so encouraging.

Not the first time, we got lost on our way back. Eventually we found ourselves in this square with its vast wooden structure. It covers a supermarket, shops and bars. Construction was problematic and it came in late and well over budget. Formally it is called the Metropol Parasol; informally locals have a name for it which includes a reference to mushrooms. It is certainly a landmark and an excellent reference point for those who are lost.
