Venezia ~ Day tre

A wonderful breakfast to start our day and then we headed off to catch the boat to Murano, the famous glass making island. We were greeted at the island by a chap pointing us in the direction of his factory. Free entry (they probably all are) so we followed. A 10 minute work shop display and then you can browse in the shop. Mr C shot round and then went outside in the sun (not his thing), I browsed for a while but mum and dad wanted to buy something so I left them to carry on browsing. Well, after about 20 minutes they hadn't come out so I went back to the shop... no mum or dad. Waited back outside for a while the went back in and asked if I could go into the showroom as I thought my parents were there. Walking back into the workshop where people were watching a demonstration, there was mum and dad in between the furnaces with the glass makers, and the salesman! Dad then gave me his camera to take a photo of them with a glassmaker. It turns out they had a complete tour of the showroom, which dad said was just amazing, through the back room where there were rows and rows of ware and back through to the workshop. They had purchased an elephant (mum has collected elephants for years) and the chap I took their picture with had made it and he dated it for them. Once again I popped outside whilst they completed their purchase and then dad ran out could I pay because they had both left their cards at the hotel..... £300 worth of elephant. Ha! Of course I did was just all quite funny.

Anyway, we shot through Murano to catch the boat to Burano. Burano is famed for its handmade lace and pretty coloured houses. We had a lovely stroll around this pretty island and stopped to grab some lunch before heading back to Venice.

We had a short rest before enjoying the delightful, complementary buffet at the hotel and then headed off to the opera. Well, you know when in Venice and all that! :-). The theatre was near the Rialto bridge, about a 20-30 minute walk from the hotel but by now mum was really struggling with her knees and walking. We made it in plenty of time but probably took us about 45-60 mins ~ we caught the water bus back. The opera was a collection of different well known arias and all the performers were dressed in baroque style costumes. A truly wonderful end to a fantastic day.

Lots of extras ( opera.. not great quality but just so you can see costumes) .... oh, and the weather was just glorious again.
