Murder stane
Standing stone at night with passing van.
This stone in the Tingwall valley is known as the murder stone.
The story goes if a person accused of murder could run from the Law Ting assembly (a Norse parliament held next to Tingwall Loch), to the Murder Stane unscathed, whilst running the gauntlet of the murdered victims family, they were innocent.
Archeologists suspect this is a relatively recent invention, as the stone is probably from a much earlier period.
