Practising For Next Year's Boat Race, Maybe

I watched the Oxford v Cambridge traditional boat race on TV. This year the results were reversed as Cambridge ladies team won by 11 lengths and made a new record of 18 minutes and 33 seconds over the 4 - 2 mile course, from Putney to  Mortlake,  on the river Thames. The Oxford men's team won this year but by only 4 seconds. The first race was held in 1829 when a Cambridge graduate challenged an old school friend, studying at Oxford, to a boat race. It is said that Oxford won. Then the race was held annually from 1856, apart from the 2 world war years.
