Red-bellied Woodpecker

You've seen this fellow before, but he bears repeating! I have a book, a very nice very big book with wonderful information and illustrations, that says definitively that this bird, though called a Red-bellied Woodpecker does NOT have a red belly. I beg to differ. Not an entirely red belly, to be sure, but as you can clearly see - he has RED on his BELLY. Pfft.

This is the male of the pair, I think, that appeared to be going to nest in a dead limb on the Maple tree just down the driveway. I haven't seen them in/at the hole lately though. Hard to say what, if anything, that means. I'll keep watching.
