Kestrel, Alnmouth Beach

As it was another lovely day we decided to drive a few miles from Alnwick to Alnmouth, where we had a super walk along the coastal path and the beach to Boulmer Village and back. We were really lucky to see several birds, but my favourite photo is this one of a Kestrel in flight. I hope it found its lunch eventually - it made several unsuccessful swoops down to the ground (which I was equally unsuccessful at capturing on camera). Please look large against black if you've time.

The 1st extra show a Curlew paddling in the sea (clearly it couldn't read the signs warning against even paddling from this beach in view of some dangerous currents). The second shows why we like the Northumberland Coast - the huge beaches are often almost deserted even on a nice (though chilly!) day.

After leaving Alnmouth we stopped off at Warkworth and had a walk by the river. The Castle looked good in the late afternoon light, with its reflection in the river - see extra No.3.

(For once I missed doing MonoMonday as I wanted to blip these photos.)
