Surprise!

I spotted this praying mantis as I passed by thinking of something else. She was very wet and was clutching a small, fat fly. Both her antennae are shorter than they should be, but otherwise she looked okay for a slim female. The light was too dark to get a good sharp shot and I didn’t want to startle her with the flash.

Today I lit the fire for the first time in nearly five months. I’m fed up with the dank.
