A fascinating day..

Well I got a call this morning to invite me down to watch/help with the final 7 whale post mortems after 16 pilot whales died after stranding off the Fife coast...it was a great experience (and also a sad one). A team of vets, marine biologists, students and volunteers had been working tirelessly since Sunday to keep alive, refloat and monitor the animals they could, and then it was a race against time to get the bodies of the others winched off the beach and post mortemed to try to get some information on what had happened.

I arrived this morning to the last 7 whales being PMd - I helped with some of the dissections and sample taking/labelling . The team were all exhausted (they had a lot of Red Bull on the go) but we got through the lot in about 6 hours. Phew!!

No suitable photos from the whales (Petersburg I'll email you a few :)) but this farmer out baling in the afternoon sunshine caught my eye on the way home.
