Canal bores number 24....

This is the wall of the entrance to the 'Works Lock' of the Caledonian Canal at Clachnaharry. Because I'm reading a book about the canal, I am now more aware of everything about it. In Thomas Telford's estimation, this was the finest masonry of the project. I hadn't noticed the engraved depth marks before. The canal was supposed to be twenty feet deep, but clearly still isn't.
