Old mods, off their rockers

We are in my favourite place on China Yangzhou although it is changing and in danger of losing it's charm as it becomes ever more commercialised. We hired scooters and took off for a ride around the countryside which was lovely as you get to see a different side to life in China like the family that sells honey by the roadside where they not only keep the hives but live in what can only be described as a shed!

BBQ last night was good and i got to try duck's tongue for the first and last time. I will be adding that to the list of things to avoid along with chickens feet and pigs penis. We drank rice wine, 15 litres of it apparently but it wasn't very strong and i didn't drink too much as we were on scooters, dangerous enough without alcohol.

Strange sights/experiences today include:

The truck coming at us on our side of the three way carriage way and no one batting an eyelid or blasting their horn. It was as if it wasn't unusual at all and he must have traveled some distance this way as it was miles before we hit a junction where he could have taken the wrong turn.

Driving home in the dark on the she road which in places was undergoing major repairs with potholes and ramps, none of which were signposted. How we didn't lose a wheel or worse i will never know.

The motorcyclist prostate in the road with people around him doing nothing to help but taking pictures on their mobile phones. Luke tells us that people are afraid to help for fear of litigation if something goes wrong. I can kind of her that although it is a very sad indictment of society but it still doesn't excuse the taking of photos.
