Mad Jack
A long walk over on the Kent/Sussex border around Darvell and Brightling woods taking in three of the follies built by 'Mad' Jack Fuller, the squire of Brightlingand one-time MP for Sussex (died 1834). The Pyramid was built in the churchyard at Brightling. It was rumoured that Fuller had been interred within sat at a dining table with a bottle of claret and wearing a top hat. We also saw the Rotunda Temple, the Tower and the churchyard wall with its Squires door - I feel a series of lino prints coming on! Lots of butterflies in the woods - especially orange tips and peacocks - at least a dozen of each.
