Lethal Weapon?

Out for our walk early this morning and I spotted this guy in the field next to the woods...sadly only had my LX5 with me (120 mm max zoom).. so the image here is a really severe crop and is a bit on the rough side. Not something you see every day, though.

Not sure what he was shooting at, but he had a couple of pops and then left. Given that it is not bird shooting season, I wondered if he was doing a bit of pest control. I know there are some sheep in the field behind the hill, so maybe a fox has been around.
