To Radial Tires in Silver Spring to get four new tires on the Beetle. On the way out I spotted this - a Jaguar XK-E Series II V12 Roadster, the most beautiful car ever made (except for the ugly black bumper guards). I got chatting with the owner who said her Dad had bought it before she was born and she had grown up with the car. When she told me it was for sale I figured I was actually in a dream and would be waking up soon. With some regret, I had to tell her that it was highly unlikely that permission would be forthcoming from my commanding officer.
