From another era.
Number of possible blips today, all from the East Lothian village of Macmerry in the Parish of Gladsmuir. This photo shows the Miners Welfare Institute building that was constructed in 1924. East Lothian used to be covered with coal pits; five near Macmerry alone and all connected by sidings/mineral lines to the (long vanished) station in Macmerry. These had a short working life, and the five pits were gone by the end of the 1920s. Now no sign of them remains apart from the odd relic like the former Welfare Institute that's currently a social club. Some pits in East Lothian hung in until the 1980s when the death knell sounded for British heavy industry thanks to the scum Conservative government and self destructive behaviour by the Trade Unions. Mrs. Legodude's maternal Grandfather worked in the mines until they closed, fortunately he found work afterwards with the Council.
