apple harvest
One of my greatest pleasures is, for a few weeks of the year, to be able to pick apples from our own tree. I eat three or four a day straight from the tree and nothing tastes better.
Its a Cox's Orange Pippin, given to us as a wedding present by my brother, and it fruits extravagantly every year so that we are inundated and have many more than we can deal with, so give them away to whoever we can.
It was another golden gorgeous day, but this morning there was a sharp freshness to the air, and a heavy dew lay white across the fields like a foretelling of frost. Autumn is just around the corner.
