Thursday: Trieste Grand Canal

This morning we headed from Ljubljana to the Skocjan Caves, supposedly the largest caves in Europe.  Before I tell you that they were spectacular I would like to say that you should not a) assume that the Skocjan caves are necessarily located in the town of Skocjan and b) assume that there is only one town called Skocjan....there could be two and they could be at opposite ends of the country.....as we found out today. Luckily Slovenia is not that big!

Anyway, the caves were amazing but sadly no photography allowed.  And now we are in Trieste for a couple of days.

This European geography is most intriguing.  Within minutes of crossing the border from sedate, genteel Slovenia into Italy we were surrounded by manic drivers and millions of Vespas. It's like there is a Vespa dividing line running through Europe.

This is the Grand Canal in Trieste.
