A Tale Of Two Tits
Two Openreach, formerly BT, engineers turned up early this morning and replaced the cable from the house to the telegraph pole. Broadband seems to working quite well, I've had a few outages but have got to let it settle down for a further ten days.
I'm very excited as I've found another long-tailed tits' nest. It is nearly complete and is in our neighbour's leylandii hedge. The birds have chosen the position well. It's fairly high and between some thin branches. No way that Fat Face can get to it. It has been delightful standing in the sunshine watching the pair of birds flitting to and fro with lichen, moss and feathers. I love the soft "zep, zep" noise they make as they approach the nest.
Today's poem is On His Mistress Drown'd by Thomas Sprat.https://fromtroublesofthisworld.wordpress.com/tag/on-his-mistress-drownd/
Sprat, Bishop of Rochester, was one of a group who met to discuss and philosophise and which led to the foundation of the Royal Society. I can't find any background to the poem but central is the theme of brine - salty tears and seawater.
