Out (then back in) with the old
When I got there at 3, mom was in a down, confused mood. She said she didn't think she was good for anything anymore. She said she didn't know what she was doing. She was semi packed up but was also watering plants that were arranged all over the windowsill, so at least she was engaged in something meaningful. I joined her in puttering and we ended up cleaning out all her drawers. I got rid of a full trash bag of tissues, old papers, creamer and butter packets, and other odds and ends; I sorted out clothes that smelled and had to be washed; and we put all the books and magazines in stacks and she sorted out the ones she was done with. That in itself was a coup. She's usually never done with anything. The room all tidied and set back to livable, we returned a salt and pepper shaker to the dining room then set out for a walk.
Just two minutes from Silverado mom spotted this piece of broken bike reflector on the ground and swooped down to get it. She said something like, I can use this to make something pretty. She's probably right!
