Beaver State

This sculpture is on the grounds of our state capital. Oregon is subtitled the Beaver State and it is our state animal. Of course, it was nearly exterminated from this fair land by the Hudson Bay company to make men's hats and by farmers who wanted to drain the wetlands to farm. Only now are we realizing how helpful beavers are and we are more likely to let them live.
