Solitary surfer
We had a glorious morning of playing in the water in bright sun in a dream of a cove, the kind that looks like all the postcards: palm trees, 10,000 shades of blue water, pure high white clouds, golden sands. Suddenly and impossibly clouds appeared and it started to rain. So we went to Lahaina for lunch, where it was blast-furnace HOT without any clouds at all; then we were too hot, so we went to the North Shore to watch the surfers. I got pictures of all that, but the one I'm choosing to blip is this lone surfer, heading across a cow pasture into a forest of strangely shaped trees.
He was going in the opposite direction of the water, and it looks as though he might be bound for the end of the world, surfboard under his arm.
We bought fresh coconuts, hacked open for us by a haole guy at a juice hut who claimed he's saving up for a pedal-powered juicer. We stopped at somewhere gorgeous to watch the sunset, and Bella took her first pictures with her mama's iPhone. It was tempting to blip Bella concentrating on getting the shot she wanted, but I'm sticking with this solitary surfer today. We wrapped up the day by drifting around Lahaina after dark, talking to a local man who makes unusually fine woodcarvings, and buying gelato. I put more shots on Flickr, for anyone who is just aching to see more pictures of Bella and Hawaii.
I just read yesterday's comments, for which many thanks. Even in Paradise, it is a joy to read your comments.
