Military Pillbox

These hexagonal shaped concrete shelters littered the south coast during WW2-they were built with slits so that soldiers could fire out onto the enemy but be protected against grenades and gunfire. Many remain and have had the slits boarded up and poles erected to provide a safe haven for local bats.
They were called pillboxes because they closely resembled the medical containers used at the time for storing tablets..!
