April Road Trip!!

Salisbury Plain escarpment, Westbury, Wiltshire

After all that hard work yesterday, the Apprentice and the Master deserved a day off so we headed off on a road trip down into Somerset and beyond! The day in brief!!

1)      To Mells to visit the walled garden café, only to discover they’d gone out of business! Lesson of the day, don’t trust the internet!! So instead a wander around the historic village and a quick look at the 15th century church.

2)      On to the village of Nunney to walk around the moat of the 14th century ruined castle, followed by a hot chocolate to warm up on a rather chilly, grey morning.

3)      From Nunney’s village square, a three mile circular walk following the Nunney Brook, through woodland where the sun appeared and the valley was filled with Bluebells, Wood Anemones and Wild Garlic. The Grey Wagtails were flitting about around the water, and as we left the brook and climbed up to pastureland, Skylarks were singing above. Wonderful…

4)      On to Frome to buy Easter Biscuits at the market and a café stop for a late lunch, and a rest!

5)      Into Wiltshire for the final stop of the day, the Westbury White Horse where we watched hang gliders battle with the strong winds to launch themselves off the escarpment of Salisbury Plain.

6)      Home via the rolling Cotswold hills around Bath…

(A backblip for yesterday (Saturday) as by the time I got home, I was just too zonked to even think about blipping. Today (Sunday) has been another hectic day so I hope to have the time tomorrow to make one of my memory collages of my road trip… Happy Easter to you all!!)
