Between fen and mountains

The little yellow train

We were waved off by our fellow passengers when we got off at the request stop in the middle of the mountains for a three hour walk down the valley to recover the car. The Little Yellow Train of the Pyrenees is one of the great railway journeys of the world - a historic metre-gauge electric railway in the French Pyrenees, opened in 1909, and still going strong. The line rises through dramatic scenery from an altitude of 427 metres at its lower terminus at Villefranche de Conflent, to a summit at Bolquère Eyne, France's highest railway station, lying at an altitude of 1592 metres (5226 ft).

On the walk, I saw two red squirrels but the auto focus was too slow to catch them clearly. I trod on a snake but it slithered away harmlessly. In all other respects, it was an uneventful walk with but with magnificent views most of the way
