Larger for more detail.
The Rijnhaven is one of the oldest ports on the south bank of the Nieuwe Maas river. The port's construction lasted from 1887 to 1895 over area of 28 hectares. It was initially dug as a port for ships plying on the Rhine river, especially in the winter when the river Rhine froze.
