Harmonic Fields

This amazing, Musical Art is part of a mile long symphonic soundscape on the cliffs of Portland, and an old stone quarry. Portland stone is known world wide.
It is closing on Sunday so we thought we must go and see it.

Along the way you encounter different sculpture type forms of music created by the wind.
A long arched metal avenue with balls hanging down all with a slit in them when the wind blows the all have different sounds.
About twenty big cane poles line the path way on the top of the cliff walk, humming in the breeze. The views are spectacular looking down on the chisel beach and Portland Harbour.
A huge circle of Chelo and Drums fixed to posts make an orchestra, extraordinaire experience.

The lack of breeze in this area was a shame.

Through out the trail we encountered "Aeolians"the guardians of the Harmonic Fields, they sit silently in black with large hats and holding a cane across their knees.

Another intriguing thing, you put your head in and stood like an alien, until it bonged on the drum above which made you me! jump out of your skin!!

Other musical creations continued to amaze us as we walked along the path.
Then at the end of the trail stood these blipped creations, the wind drove the small windmills that worked the wheels that caused the clatter of simples, dinging of bells and clatter of drums, incredible.

All for a small donation.
