My Magic Kingdom

Modern Africa

My day started early as I had to take Kiara to the vet by 7am. Her airway is becoming smaller as the cancer has started to grow and she is not breathing easily. The vet has given her one more dose of medicine to see if we can shrink it a bit. It is quite a cruel disease as the rest of her is perfect but if she can't breath she can't survive. I have come to terms with the decision we have to make and this will be the last attempt to prolong the inevitable.

After school we drove through to Johannesburg as I had a hair appointment. My hairdresser/friend has recently moved to a new salon and this was the first time I had seen it. He is now located in Melrose Arch which is a very chic area. It was actually a small suburb that was flattened and rebuilt as a new zone. It contains office space, hotels, restaurants and upmarket boutique shops. The roads are cobblestone with avenues of trees and the cafes spill out onto the pavements. It has a very European feel to it.

It is always wonderful to have a bit of pampering and I feel ready for spring now with my new hairdo.

EDIT: this wasn't my first choice of photo but I didn't have enough memory on my Blackberry to upload the better shot. Here is a view of the opposite corner. I will replace this when I can so that I can show you the cafe scene.
