Gold Escort

Back blip # 1:  This is Gold Escort picnic area in the Belair NP.  It's easy to see why it's so popular.  The tiny building on the bottom right is the Commissioners' shack.

So, it's called Gold Escort because the Gold Escort Route used to pass though Belair NP in the early days of the Colony, travelling from  Adelaide to Melbourne.  The history of gold mining in South Australia is interesting, but too lengthy to write here.  Suffice to say that the very first gold in Australia was discovered in South Australia in 1846.
