Spitfire engine
At the aviation museum, Wisbech. But of course with a story attached: it's a Rolls Royce Merlin Mk 12 manufactured in December 1940. The plane crashed on the 8th of June 1943 into the soft fenland earth, reaching 26 feet below ground level. It was unearthed in 1985 and cleaned up by members of the Fenland Aircraft Preservation Society after some 800 man-hours work.
The pilot Flight Lieutenant Beurling, a Canadian national serving in the Royal Air Force, survived.
