Roman Holiday
We have been out and about visiting Roman sites today. We started at the Roman Palace at Fishbourne which was excavated in the sixties to reveal several amazing mosaic floors. The villa fell down following a fire and then over the centuries much of the stonework has been robbed out for other buildings. We had a tour of the behind the scenes collection which was most interesting and got to hold a flint tool which was 500 000 years old, pretty cool.
After a cuppa and toasted teacakes we drove down winding single track roads past the most beautiful cottages to the lovely village of Bignor and its Roman Villa. The mosaics here were superb and we were walking on some of them. My blip is of the Medusa Mosaic in the Bath House, imagine being the archaeologist who uncovered this!
