In the kitchen

There is a small, selfish joy to be had from the fact that your children are hungover and you are not. Today, they moved quietly around the house, depositing themselves on the sofas and occasionally rousing themselves to come and talk to me in the kitchen where I was making chilli.

There used to be a big American fridge in the corner of the kitchen, which my second wife took when we divorced (it was, to be fair, a gift from her mother). I had intended to replace it but the Minx suggested using the space for a table and chairs, and putting the smaller fridge that had accompanied us around the cottages in the utility room.

It's worked a treat. The kitchen seems bigger because of it plus it provides somewhere for people to sit and chat to you while you cook.
