Cartmel Priory

Founded in 1190 as an Augustinian establishment. It was dissolved in 1536 by Henry VIII.

In 1634 Cromwell stayed in Cartmel and his Roundhead soldiers stabled their horses in the church. There was some altercation and the resulting bullet holes are still visible in the south west door.
