Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Man in a (too short) kilt!

Half an hour on the cross trainer, then repainting the corner cupboard. Many of you will have noticed and been too polite to say- but I should not have painted wood with gloss paint. It needs an undercoat. I know this, of course, but my painting arm yesterday did not stop to think. However, you would never know. Well, once I've done a couple more coats...

Off to My Club for wee croissants, coffee and papers. JR attempted to tempt me into M&S for some new jeans, though there is nothing wrong with my 'old' ones. I did not last long enough to peruse what was on offer.

Instead, we went to Jamie's for lunch. Two weeks in a row! The noisy chatter of happy punters almost drowns out the screechy muzak. Excellent service again.

On the way home I jumped off the bus at the Mile - it was mobbed. Yoda was still there, waving his saber around and not bothering to be a statue, and had a big crowd - everybody working out how he did it.

The metal lady was there and I watched as a mum got two very reluctant young lads to go and stand beside her for a photo. Their expressions were priceless. She was rather scary. (The metal lady, not the mum!)

There were loads of weddings in town - 'fascinators' were everywhere. If an alien landed and saw some of these weird and (not very) wonderful things women put on their heads, they'd turn and run.

But the sounds of the pipes drew me in to the City Chambers. A wedding was taking place. The quad was full of tourists (and me) taking photos of the piper. The guests were arriving, none as finely clad as this chap.

Though I do think his kilt is a wee bit short - we should not see those knees!
