our last day. One last walk on the beach - here at Ardivachar, South Uist, deserted except for little flocks of Dunlin hurrying back and forth on the shoreline. Although we have been here for two weeks, I feel we have only scratched the surface of this island. Visitors see beautiful white beaches, hills, historical sites. Living here is a different story.
There isn't much to see in this photo except sand and sea. But what lies just out of the line of your sight?
Just behind us was the missile testing range...
Just behind that, a small walled cemetery where we found the grave of Angus McPhee, who I wrote about in an earlier blip. While we were looking for it, we came across the grave of a family who were killed during a storm January 2005 when their cars were swept off the causeway which connects South Uist and Benbecula.
The extra is a beautiful Emperor Moth which D found in the garden this morning.
