……………..Water Supply
The water from this Brook Valley Stream was used to provide the city of Nelson, NZ with its first town water supply. The waterworks were opened in April 1868
Several dams and weirs were built along this waterway over the years as more water was required for the growing population. Gradually they deteriorated and on completion of the Maimai Dam in 1987 the Brook Dam became obsolete. Remains are still visible, also several small waterfalls.
After visiting Founders Heritage Park with the Motueka Historical Ass for a ‘field trip’ my husband and I walked from the old 1905 water reservoir in the Brook Valley to the Forks Crossing. Along the track we passed remnants of the 1868 dam and the top dam which was built in 1909
Your comments, hearts and stars for yesterday’s white nerine are very much appreciated and I thank you all for your generosity.
