St George's day 2017
Here is St George dispatching his dragon on the back of a silver Victorian crown coin. Made in 1893 from an ounce of silver it was worth 5 shillings, the equivalent today of 25 new pence!
A thought for St George's day:
"The world still consists of two clearly divided groups; the English and the foreigners. One group consists of less than 50 million people; the other of 3,950 million people. The latter group does not really count."
György Mikes (1912 - 1987) Hungarian-born British author best known for his humorous commentaries on various countries.
I used to think that this was meant as a joke and then Brexit happened!
